UEFA, CONCACAF and AFC call for independent FIFA review

UEFA, CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation issued a joint statement on Monday calling for an independent review of FIFA’s governance. The three confederations said they are preparing a new policy framework for running world football.

The statement called for “leadership that serves football, not seeks to command it”. A source with knowledge of the discussions told The Guardian that the confederations are working on a policy document to demonstrate how the world governing body could evolve in the future.

Alternative competitions

The three bodies have also begun preliminary discussions about organising new competitions if the standoff with FIFA’s leadership persists, the source said.
