UK coronavirus: Death toll reaches 465
The coronavirus death toll in the UK has reached 465 after a further 28 people in England died after contracting the virus.
In total, 414 people in England have died from Covid-19, while 22 have died in Scotland and Wales and seven died in Northern Ireland, the Guardian reported.
Today’s overall UK increase of 43 is less than yesterday’s jump of 87, which was the biggest number of deaths recorded in one day so far.
However the number of infections in the UK increased by 1,452 to 9,529, the largest increase reported yet.
The ages of the 28 people to die in England today ranged from 47 to 93. All of the patients had underlying health conditions except for the 47 year old.
Steven Dick, the 37-year-old British ambassador to Hungary, died from the virus yesterday, the Foreign Office said.
“I am desperately saddened by the news of Steven’s death and my heart goes out to his parents Steven and Carol,” foreign secretary Dominic Raab said.
“Steven was a dedicated diplomat and represented his country with great skill and passion. He will be missed by all those who knew him and worked with him.”
