Skoda emissions scandal: Volkswagen says 1.2m Skodas fitted with emissions cheat software
More than a million Skoda vehicles are fitted with the software which was used by Volkswagen to cheat emissions tests, the troubled car company admitted today.
Worldwide, 1.2m Skodas on the road are fitted with the software, Reuters reports. In total more than 11m VW cars across multiple car brands are affected by the issue.
Earlier today it admitted 2.1m Audis were fitted with the software which helped vehicles pass emissions tests by manipulating data. The software is able to tell when emissions are tested and reduce them in response, helping cars cheat the test.
The Czech-based brand has not yet given a breakdown of the particular models and countries have been affected. VW had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication.
The former chief of VW Martin Winterkorn who resigned last week, bowing to pressure over the scandal, will be investigated by authorities in Germany, it was also revealed today.
