World wealth rankings: Here’s where the world’s millionaires live (spoiler – the number of UK super-rich is about to double)

The UK is home to more of the world's millionaires than anywhere else in the world, apart from the US, and that number is only set to grow in the next five years.

More than two million millionaires call the UK home, and rising numbers have caused the UK to jump two places ahead of Japan and France as the country with the most since last year.

That number is also expected to nearly double by 2020, hitting close to four million – that's against a global forecast of a rise of 46.2 per cent.

While the number of people in the UK counting their cash over the million dollar mark grew three per cent on last year, the number of millionaires across the world fell from 36.1m to 33.7m as a result of exchange rate fluctuations. Since the turn of the century, the number of dollar millionaires has risen 146 per cent.

The world's millionaires account for 0.7 per cent of the world's population, but they own 45.2 per cent of global wealth – and high-end wealth has grown at a faster pace than that of the middle class since the financial crisis.

Here's where the world's millionaires live.
