Who’s supporting corbynomics?
John Ross, Socialist blogger
A former economic adviser to Ken Livingstone, Ross was reportedly paid a six-figure salary during Livingstone’s time at City Hall. He now writes on a blog called the Socialist Economic Bulletin, which states that it is published by Livingstone, although his most recent post was back in May after the General Election. In 2008 a fellow aide at City Hall said Ross was part of a secret Marxist cell.
Hilary Wainwright, Editor, Red Pepper
Another former economic adviser to Ken Livingstone, Wainwright is part of the “editorial collective” at Red Pepper – a “socialist publication drawing on feminist, green and libertarian politics” which also describes itself as “a home for open-minded anti-capitalists”. In July she wrote an article saying she had paid £3 in order to vote for Corbyn in the Labour leadership election.
Steve Keen, Professor, Kingston University
An old friend of anti-austerity maverick Yanis Varoufakis – who was, until recently, Greek finance minister – Keen is head of history, economics and politics at Kingston University. He has published a book, and a blog, both called Debunking Economics and which he uses to criticise neoclassical economics. He is also chief economist for IDEAeconomics; “Economics is broken. We are dedicated to its reform,” the group says.
Mary Robertson, Academic
Mary Robertson is an academic specialising in housing, neoliberalism, and Marxist political economy. She was a student activist and occupier at SOAS, where she studied for her PhD. She was active with the group Student Broad Left, who campaign “against cuts, racism, imperialism and war”, and has addressed the Occupy movement on topics such as debt resistance.
