Winner Schleck fails to close gap
CYCLING: Andy Schleck claimed the honours in the final major climb of this year’s Tour de France – but failed to make any ground on Albert Contador in the race for the yellow jersey.
Luxembourg rider Schleck powered to victory in the tough 174km 17th stage from Pau and up the Col du Tourmalet, but defending champion Contador remained right on his rear wheel and maintains his eight-second lead with three stages to race.
Schleck admitted: “I think it is between him [Contador] and me now.”
