Working Lunch: K10, Minster Court EC3

WHAT? K10 specialises in, ahem, kaiten-style Japanese cuisine – that’s conveyor belt sushi to you and me – using fresh ingredients and a good selection of booze to wrestle the serving format away from the likes of YO! Sushi, which has trampled all over its good name in recent years.

WHERE? It’s tucked away within the Minster Court office development near Fenchurch Street on the former Poon’s and China Delight site.

WHO? This is the K10 group’s third London venture and it’s their biggest, too, with 90 covers inside and 40 outside, and a bar serving a range of Japanese craft beers and whiskies.

ORDER THIS… The desserts are uncommonly good for a sushi joint; delicate, creamy panna cottas and refreshing citrus mousses.  The sushi isn’t bad either, especially thick cut tuna sashimi and chicken in a homemade katsu sauce. It’s probably wise to skip the cheaper, totally ordinary maki in favour of the raw fish and hot stuff.

BUSINESS OR PLEASURE? Japanese food is perfect for a business lunch; healthy, light and cultured. There is no room for documents at the conveyor belt, though, and it can get rather loud.

NEED TO BOOK? You can’t at lunchtime, so get in there around midday to ensure a seat. You can in the evening, though, at K10.com.

THE VERDICT… It’s an impressive space and the food is a cut above your usual high-street sushi fare – if you’re prepared to pick up the pricier dishes. If you stick to the cheap stuff, you’re better off grabbing the K10 lunch box at £6.95.

ONE MORE THING… At over 50m long, it boasts the longest sushi conveyor belt. It’s over 50m long and carries over 300 plates around in seven minutes.
