World Cup bores Ferguson

MANCHESTER UNITED manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes watching the World Cup is as painful as a trip to the dentist and rates the Champions League as the best competition in the world.
The tournament’s group stages have come in for some criticism in recent times, but Ferguson insists the Champions League is in rude health, particularly in comparison to the World Cup.
“Have you seen the last six World Cups? It is better going to the dentist I suppose,” said Ferguson, whose side can virtually book their place in the last 16 with a win in Turkey against Bursaspor tonight. “The Champions League is better than the World Cup. It is unbelievable.”
Ferguson has opted to rest eight members of his first team this evening, including Rio Ferdinand (left).
Chris Smalling is likely to take the place of the England skipper, and Ferguson has been impressed at the way the former Fulham man has adjusted to the pressures of life at Old Trafford.
He said: “Some players come to here and take time but the lad has taken to it quickly.
“He has adapted. He is receptive to training. He is intelligent and we need to give him some experience in big games.”
