Chelsea face further criticism from medical community over Dr Eva Carneiro exit
The Football Medical Association (FMA) has its expressed its disappointment that former Chelsea first team medic Dr Eva Carneiro has left the club after a dispute with manager Jose Mourinho.
Carneiro has left Chelsea it emerged yesterday, following a public falling out with Mourinho over her decision to treat Eden Hazard on the pitch while the current Premier League champions were chasing a winning goal in their opening game at home to Swansea.
Mourinho branded Carneiro "naive" in a post-match press conference and removed both her and physio Jon Fearn from matchday duties and is currently under scrutiny at the FA, who are considering a complaint that he used sexist and abusive language towards her at the time of the incident.
The FMA, which represents medical professionals in football, said:
The FMA is extremely disappointed that Dr Eva Carneiro will not be resuming her full duties as first team doctor at Chelsea Football Club.As the representative body for Medicine and Science personnel in the professional game, the FMA aims to protect the rights of its members. Having recently been contacted by Eva, we have offered our full support in attempting to negotiate a satisfactory outcome. Unfortunately this has not resulted in our preferred outcome……The FMA will continue to offer support to Eva on a professional level through what is likely to be a difficult time.
