Volvo recalls 167,000 cars after it finds flaw in tailgate

Over 150,000 Volvo owners will have their cars recalled after the company discovered problems with the tailgate, the company said.

The recall includes 13,000 XC60 SUVs in the UK, 23,500 in China and 13,000 in the company’s native Sweden.

“Volvo Cars investigations have identified that the tailgate lifting arms on XC60 models built between 2018 and 2019 may freeze under certain conditions in freezing temperatures,” a spokesperson told Morning Wire

“Should this occur, it may lead to noise or a loss of function when operating the tailgate, with risk of separation of the tailgate lifting arms.”

The recall of 167,000 cars comes just weeks after Volvo was forced to recall 200,000 cars worldwide, including 31,000 in the UK, over fears that fuel was leaking into the engine.

“Volvo never compromises on safety; this is a voluntary recall that we have carried out to prevent future problems,” the company said.
