Ancelotti awaits Roman verdict

CHELSEA manager Carlo Ancelotti denied he was waving goodbye to the club’s fans during his side’s lap of honour following yesterday’s final match of the season at Stamford Bridge.
Steven Taylor’s injury time header prevented Chelsea from ending their home campaign on a high and denied them the opportunity to conclusively wrap up second place in the Premier League.
Branislav Ivanovic had given Chelsea the ideal start but Jonas Gutierez inadvertently deflected Ryan Taylor’s free kick beyond Petr Cech to level matters before the break. A far post header from Alex looked to have secured three points for Chelsea before Taylor’s even later intervention earned Newcastle a point.
Having presided over Chelsea’s first trophyless season since 2008 Ancelotti’s position is far from secure, but the Italian maintains he would like to prolong his stay in west London.
“I don’t know what happens, we have to wait and after that I can explain. It is the tradition of the club [to do a lap of honour] and it is normal to say thanks to the fans, because the support I received was fantastic.
“We have to just wait one week, it is not a long period and see what happens. Everyone can give their opinion about my job here, but it is the club that has to take a decision and judge my job.
“If my job is good I will stay. If they think my job was not good I have to go. In my opinion sometimes I did a good job, sometimes I could do better.” Ancelotti admitted Chelsea’s performance summed up their season as they twice threw away the lead.
He said: “We started the game well, playing well and scoring, and were unlucky to concede. We had a lot of difficulties but scored again.
“We needed more concentration at the end. We’ve conceded in the last minute a lot of times this season. We’ve lost a lot of points that way. When you concede a lot of goals in the last minute, you know something is wrong.”
