City close in on Champions League spot thanks to Dzeko

MANCHESTER CITY striker Edin Dzeko expressed his relief at finally breaking his Premier League duck as his goal earned Roberto Mancini’s side a crucial win in their pursuit of Champions League qualification.
The Bosnia international fired home the only goal of the game in the 75th minute, just three minutes after emerging from the substitutes’ bench.
Dzeko, who had gone nine top flight games without a goal, secured a win which moved City four points clear of fifth placed Spurs and to within five points of faltering Arsenal with a game in hand.
“I’m very happy that this goal helped my team to win the game,” said Dzeko.
“Sometimes it’s difficult, I’m not the first who didn’t make the best start but I’m happy because I scored today and helped the team.”
Mancini added: “I’m very happy for Edin because he deserves to score, he is a good player and a good man. In the first half we played a fantastic game, we should have scored two goals minimum. In the second half the game changed, Blackburn were hard.”
Rovers are now firmly entrenched in a relegation battle, just a point off the drop zone. Their manager Steve Kean said: “If we continue to approach the games like that we will put points on the table and climb the league.”
