David Buik: Three things you didn’t know about Panmure Gordon’s market commentator

By: Gabriella Griffith

1 He’s actually Canadian. He was born in Montreal in 1944 and moved to the UK in 1949, where he’s lived ever since.

2 He’s a big horse racing fan and has had horses running in three Grand Nationals. His horses, Course Hunter and Bartres, were among the field in the 1988, 1989 and 1990 races. Sadly there were no wins.

3 He’s played cricket against Malcolm Marshall, the West Indies fast bowler. He had him caught at slip third ball for nought in a match at Banks Brewery Ground in Barbados in 1978. “I had no idea who he was. He was 19 years old and he had just played his first three test matches in the Indian sub continent,” he told us.
