Economist gets in squabble over bitcoin tape
A top economist has hit out at Bitcoin, saying it will be confined to museums in five years, and sparking a backlash from the crypto community.
Nouriel Roubini, famed for predicting the 2008 financial crisis, said that cryptocurrencies bitcoin, ethereum and monero will be consigned to the Museum of Failed Coins, according to reports.

He made the remarks at a debate in Taiwan yesterday with Arthur Hayes, the chief executive of the Bitmex exchange.
However, investors may never see all of Roubini’s remarks after Hayes, who owns the rights, declined to put the tape online.
The economist lashed out at Hayes, accusing him of a “scam” and calling him a coward.”
“He controls the only recording of it and will only release heavily edited ‘highlights’. I destroyed [Hayes] in the debate and he is hiding.”

Hayes, in return, said the tape would expose Roubini’s “thin grasp of economics”.
Bitcoin was trading at $11,421 this afternoon.
