Ian Kellett will take over from current chief executive Nick Wood at Pets at Home on 4 April, the UK's largest pet foods and accessories retailer announced today.

Wood will stay at the company in an advisory role until 1 July during the transition.

Kellett has been a member of the Pets at Home board for the last decade and was most recently the chief executive of the company's retail division. He was previously chief financial officer.

Peter Pritchard will be promoted from his role of chief operating officer to chief executive officer of the retail division, taking over from Kellett.

"[Nick's] appointment is consistent with the succession plan the Board set out when Ian was appointed last year as CEO of the Retail Division, and with the appointment of Graeme Jenkins as CFO," Tony DeNunzio, non-executive chairman of Pets at Home, said.

"Ian has a strong vision for the Group based on his experience over ten years with Pets at Home in both financial and operational roles and I am confident he will continue to provide excellent leadership to the Group."

Pets at Home announced like-for-like sales of two per cent in its third quarter results, released in January, driven partly to a craze in "advanced nutrition", including luxury food, for pets.
