Mowbray’s Celtic reign ended by humiliating defeat to St Mirren
TONY MOWBRAY last night paid the price for a disastrous first season in charge of Celtic when he parted company with the club after just nine months.
Mowbray met with chief executive Peter Lawwell at the Hoops’ Lennoxtown training ground yesterday to discuss Wednesday night’s 4-0 thrashing by St Mirren – the 13th defeat since taking over from Gordon Strachan last summer.
That humiliating loss sees the Bhoys lie 10 points behind big rivals Rangers at the top of the table, having played two games more.
Assistant manager Mark Venus and first team coach Peter Grant have also departed, while coach Neil Lennon has been appointed to oversee first team matters on a game-by-game basis, starting with the trip to Kilmarnock on Saturday.
Norwich boss Paul Lambert is among the early front-runners to take the job permanently.
