Now for 9.4 secs, says record monopolising sprint king Bolt
SPRINT sensation Usain Bolt has set his sights on running the 100m in 9.4 seconds after shattering the world record yet again.
The Jamaican obliterated the previous best time, which he set at last year’s Beijing Olympics, by the unprecedented margin of 0.11 seconds at the World Championships in Berlin on Sunday.
And now the 22-year-old, who has broken the record three times, is confident he can go on improving in years to come.
“I think it will stop at 9.4 but you never know,” he said. “I don’t run for world records. I’ll just keep on working.”
Bolt also holds the 200m record, set during his triple gold-winning blitz in Beijing, but does not expect to improve on that in Berlin, where the heats start today.
“I doubt I’m going to get the world record in the 200m,” he added. “I’m just going to do my best like I always do.”
Bolt will not face competition from Dwain Chambers in the 200m, after the Briton withdrew yesterday with a calf injury.
However British duo Marilyn Okoro and Jenny Meadows will be in action today, in the women’s 800m final. Okoro ran a controlled race to take second place in her semi-final, while Meadows impressed by chasing down champion Janeth Jepkosgei on the home straight, also coming second.
