Tokyo 2020 Olympics: Team GB medal hopes on day 10 as Laura Muir makes 1500m semi-finals

Laura Muir produced a solid run to make the semi-finals of the 1500m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on a day when Team GB have strong medal hopes.

After a successful weekend which saw GB take their gold medal tally into double figures, the rate slowed somewhat this morning. But there are plenty of hopes to come.

Britain are well-placed for medals in the eventing, where the team medals will be decided in a session that due to begin at 9am BST.

World No1 Oliver Townend, Laura Collett and Tom McEwen lead the team event, with Townend topping the individual standings.

Twins Jessica and Jennifer Gadirova, who won bronze in the team gymnastics event, compete in the women’s floor final.

Emily Campbell is aiming to become the first British woman to win an Olympic weightlifting medal.

Laura Kenny begins her pursuit for gold medals at three successive Games. She is in the women’s team pursuit alongside Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker and Josie Knight as the track cycling begins at Tokyo’s Izu Velodrome.

Kenny has four gold medals and could become Team GB’s most decorated female Olympian in Tokyo.

Earlier on, Britain’s Nick Miller made the hammer final and Deborah Kerr qualified for the women’s kayak single 200m semi-finals.

It was bad news in the sailing, however, as a lack of wind at Enoshima meant that the event had to be postponed until tomorrow. Both the women’s 49er FX and the men’s 49er races were affected.
