Renault to recall 15,000 cars, says French energy minister Segolene Royal
Renault will recall 15,000 vehicles to bring them into line with emissions standards, French energy minister Ségolène Royal told French media today.
"Renault has committed to recalling a certain number of vehicles, to check them and adjust them correctly so that the filtration system works," Royal told radio station RTL.
The news comes five days after shares in the car manufacturer plummeted more than 20 per cent in intraday trading following raids on its factory by French police.
Shares finished last Thursday more than 10 per cent lower after independent body the Royal Commission, set up in the wake of the Volkswagen emissions cheating scandal, said it was testing 25 vehicles.
But although levels of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide were "above accepted levels, Royal later told journalists that "there is no fraud at all".
"Renault teams cooperate fully in the work of the Royal Commission and the further investigations decided by the Ministry of Economy," Renault said at the time.
Investors seemed unperturbed by the recall: the company's shares were up 1.02 per cent, at €74.93 in early trading.
