United star Evra: We’re not worried by Chelsea
MANCHESTER UNITED defender Patrice Evra has taunted Chelsea by insisting he and his team-mates are not worried that the Blues could snatch the Premier League trophy from under their noses.
Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Arsenal slashed United’s top-flight lead to just three points with three games left, including a potentially pivotal encounter with second-placed Chelsea at Old Trafford this weekend.
Evra (inset) admits the leaders would be “in trouble” if they lost to the west Londoners but is not unduly concerned as United target five wins from a possible five remaining fixtures, starting tomorrow against Schalke.
“Our destiny is still in our own hands,” said Evra. “We have two massive games coming up, against Schalke and Chelsea. We must focus on recovering for the Schalke game but we also know if we want to win the title we have to beat Chelsea.
“If we don’t beat them we are going to be in trouble. We don’t want to be in trouble.
“But I have to say, I am not worried. Against Arsenal, we did not do the things we normally do. Hopefully it was an accident because we have five games left. Every one is like a final. We need to win them all.”
Chelsea were written off as title contenders just weeks ago but have hauled themselves back into contention with a run of five successive league wins, including Saturday’s 2-1 comeback victory over Tottenham.
Evra says United must be nastier than against the Gunners.
“We were too nice,” he added. “We know Arsenal. They keep possession of the ball but they are never dangerous. But normally when we come to the Emirates, we play with more power and aggression and create more chances.”
