General Election 2015: Polls open as millions expected to cast vote in tightest race for decades
Polling has begun in one of the most difficult to call General Elections in recent history.
More than 50m people are registered to vote and are expected to have voted by the time polling stations close across the country at 10pm tonight.
The tightly fought race still has the Conservatives and Labour neck and neck in the polls despite weeks of on the ground campaigning in the battle for Number 10.
Markets remain reserved with the FTSE falling 0.8 per cent this morning.
The party leaders arrived early at polling stations in their constituencies to cast their votes, making the most of the traditional election day photo opportunity.
