Monza’s future is safe
FORMULA ONE: The Italian Grand Prix will stay at Monza until 2016 after supreme Bernie Ecclestone struck a deal with track managers.
The circuit’s contract was due to expire in 2012 with its future in question amid rumours of a new Grand Prix through the streets of Rome.
But the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, which first held the Italian Grand Prix in 1922, has signed a four-year extension.
Dougherty leads in Morocco
GOLF: England’s Nick Dougherty fired a seven-under-par 65 to take a one shot lead into the second day of the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco.
The Liverpudlian fired an eagle and five birdies as he came home in 30 to lead a group of six players on six-under, including Ireland’s Peter Lawrie and Scot Stephen Gallagher.
