The end of traffic lights? Thanks to driverless car technology, researchers may have just killed them off
Waiting around at a red light may soon become a thing of the past, and it's all thanks to driverless cars.
The technology which will soon mean we can sit back and relax while automated vehicles take us from A to B could spell the end to arbitrary hold ups from frustrating red lights, scientists say.
Driverless cars will have sensors which keep speeds correct in relation to other cars, meaning they slowdown but don't come to a halt completely making inefficient traffic light systems pretty much redundant.
Watch how researchers at MIT, the Swiss Institute of Technology and the Italian National Research Council have come up with the smart junction system.
